Green Brief #78
By Codeman177 – http:/twitter.com/codeman177 Since Niteowl has started posting on his own blog, I have asked if I could begin publishing the Green Brief so that everyone on wwp would once again have a summary of the day’s news from Iran. I like Niteowl have gotten all of my information from reliable tweets and no information I could not confirm has been included in this brief. December 31st 2009 Protests/unrest 1. Several reports indicate military forces were moved into Tehran today, including hundreds of soldiers and tens of armored vehicles. Some of the armored vehicles were used to suppress street riots. 2. Students at Mashhad University effectively closed the campus today in protest of the brutal crackdown that took place at the school yesterday. Students that were arrested or injured yesterday during the protests are still missing. 3. Clashes took place today between students and security forces at Azad University. I could not confirm whether or not any injuries or arrests took place. 4. Reports indicate that security forces used tear gas to disperse crowds at 7 Tir Square, this clash resulted in numerous arrests and several injures. 5. Government and security forces took control of Enghelab Square today by closing the underground stop and dispersing protesters. 6. Plain clothes Basij militia with the support of coup government's police and security force attacked the Ghoba Mosque. Opposition forces are not permitted near the Mosque, basij militia have attacked and arrested anyone that has approached the mosque. The area around the Mosque was blockaded for some time after the attack. Arrests 1. Pro-government forces continue to call for the arrest and even the execution of Mehdi Karrubi, Mir Hossein Moussavi and Fa'ezeh Hashemi. 2. Leily Afshar was abducted today in Tehran, no one has any information on who she was abducted by or where she is. Media CNN now has a section of its website dedicated to the protests CNN.com I know I said they would get longer but a lot of the things that happened today I could not confirm so this one is short. I hope everyone has a good new year and pray for freedom in Iran in 2010. Oh I almost forgot I still need some translators and some to go through and proof read the brief before I post it to make sure I don't miss any spelling mistakes. So glad to see the Green Brief again. Thank you for taking this on. The summaries are just invaluable.
FYI re: Leily Posted earlier today on twitter: @oxfordgirl Leily called her Mother from Evin. She is fine and according to her prison guard "not in too much trouble". #LeilyAfshar |
