This movement needed a properly run forum and we have experience. We just felt that we had to do this.

This site is in no way affiliated with the Iranian government. The group of people behind this site have been running a set of protest forums for other causes for the last year and a half. You can check out the front page of the site at http://www.whyweprotest.net for proof of this. Our original fight was with the cult of Scientology (and still is.) You can of course read many hundreds of news articles about what we have done over the last year and a half with the whyweprotest.net website.

Or you can just search for WhyWeProtest.net on google etc. There you'll see that we have been covered in reputable media sources since last year as activists against censorship and agains Scientology.

You'll find that many of the people involved in creating this website care very deeply about freedom of speech and expression. Please use this forum and let us know what we can do to help more. This has helped us in our cause in ways we hope you will come to understand. Words cannot express how much we are with you in this.

To the Iranian people, please rest assured that it is simply normal people from the outside world who are trying to take what skills they have and share them with you in your time of need. It is not a government or a company or an NGO that has started this site for you, merely people who care about the world. We extend a collective hand of support to you, and we understand your apprehension... but it is our utmost hope that you will accept it.

Yes you are right to be suspicious because the Iranian Government will try to stop this site, but one way they could do that is to claim that the Iranian Government runs it. Check our sources for yourselves.

This site was made by people who are "hacktivists" people who are imbued with a set of skills related to Internet Technology who saw what the Iranian government was doing to it's people to suppress it's messages for democracy and it's hope for a free and fair electoral process. So, what I guess you could say is that computer nerds around the world saw what was unfolding and thought "We should help these people, we have the ability and the tools ...why not help them?"

So there you have it.
