Twitterers who are spreading disinformation
By codeman177 - twitter.com/codeman177 If you follow #iranelection you may have seen tweets from an account iran115, who at first may seem to be another pro-reformist twitterer. However once you go to his website and begin reading more about him you realize that this is far from the truth. He has made a blacklist that includes many important and honest twitterers. On his list are Austen Heap and Niteowl aka JShahryar, both are highly respected pro-reformists. Austen Heap started helping the protesters by creating the program haystack, which allows unfiltered internet access to the protesters in Iran. Niteowl was the original publisher of the Green Brief, and now runs his own blog where he post information about what is going on in Iran. Why would either of these people be IR agents as iran115 says they are. Next on iran115’s shit list is Anonymous, the group that runs the forum iran.whyweprotest.net. The group has a questionable history I’ll admit, some of the things this group has done is bad, however they believe in a free and uncensored internet. So to say that they are working for the Iranian regime, who are some of the worst offenders in the way of internet censorship is idiotic. Iran115 then goes on to say that he believes that the group on his blacklist is behind the twitter hack. Let’s look at this claim, we all know by now that the people on iran115’s list are not pro-regime agents. So why would people that want to help the greens take down the website that is being used to get information out and organize protests? He then goes on to reiterate his stance that everyone on his list are IR agents. When we all know that they aren’t, most of the people on his list have done a lot to help the green movement. So why does he have this list up? Simple he wants to try to create distrust on #iranelection, if he can get us to stop trusting each other he could break apart #iranelection. If he succeeds no one on #iranelection will trust each other, how will we be able to know who are legit twitterers and who are really IR agents. The next thing he discusses on his blog is that when he started “following the money” that it led to Austin Heap, Haystack, Anonymous, governments helping the regime, and the regime itself. First I want to know how he “followed the money”, and what he means does he mean the money is flowing from haystack to the regime or what? I know that people donate to Austin Heap to help with haystack and to Anonymous to keep iran.whyweprotest.net up. However I doubt that people on #iranelection are donating money to help the regime. After this iran115 comes back to attacking Niteowl, he says that because Niteowl asks for personal information he is dangerous. He says that after Niteowl started publishing his briefs that people on the internet started disappearing, this could have been caused by anything, the people being arrested or the regimes extensive internet censorship. Coming up next on his blog is another attack on Austin Heap. First he claims that Austin is not a hacker because he has a marketing degree. To be a “hacker” you do not have to have a computer degree all you have to have is an extensive knowledge of computers and networking, it’s really not that hard. Then he starts talking about how Austin is asking for donation and USB thumb drives for haystack. The donations are used to pay for servers and for network connection those servers run on. In case you’ve never priced a dell power edge blade server, they aren’t cheap. The USB thumb drives are used to load the haystack software on to so that a person can carry the thumb drive with them and then no matter what computer that person tries log on to they will always have haystack with them. He then says that there is no proof that haystack works in Iran, when several people in Iran have stated that haystack does work and that it has provided unfiltered internet access in Iran. His last few paragraphs try to convince people that everyone on his blacklist are either criminals or hackers. That all these people want to do are to discredit him and to stop a democracy in Iran. I’m going to leave this up to you to believe iran115 or to believe me and everyone on that list. I think I’ve pointed out a lot of flaws in iran115’s investigation. Iran115 if you read this I’m willing to make a deal I’ll take down this thread if you agree to take down your blacklist. Don’t try to attack me either, cause if there is one thing I believe in it democracy for all. I’ve fought for democracy in Iraq and Afghanistan, with the US army. I'm posting this in the twitter forum to a) get this forum going more traffic and b) because iran115 is wreaking havok on twitter. Mods if you believe this should be moved to off topic or something else go right ahead. |

Thank you, Codeman177, for posting this.
I found myself on Iran115's blacklist after RT some tweets which flowed through #Iranelection. No apparent reason. I hadn't been heavily involved in the conversation or much engaged on the subject, though I had followed the election news & followup & strongly supported the Green Movement as a people's revolution for truth, justice & human rights. Thus, I was quite surprised to find myself listed there amongst those who had done so much to support the movement, whether in the dissemination of information, technology or news. Bad move on his part. I have my own set of skills. I began looking into how I would end up on an "Anti-Green Movement Blacklist" when I fully supported it only to realize quickly what was really going on and began taking a *much* closer look. In addition to what Codeman177 posted above, I offer the following easily confirmable evidence that Iran115 is not what he claims. -- Has openly sought to hire headhunters/assassins, offering them a million dollars per contract. (The Green Movement is non-violent except in defense) -- He claims to be able to smuggle people into & out of Iran by "any border including water" and seeks to be hired (ahem...paid) for such service. -- Claims to have been involved in an attack on the Ministry of Finance/Information -- No business record exists for his "organization" (to best of my knowledge thus far) and the address given is a "rent-an-office-space" building which has had some shady characters in its own past. -- Uses a Skype account with a DC area code but is almost certainly not located in DC. Has offered to meet people in person but never followed through. Claims to be blind & sometimes wheelchair bound to avoid doing so. -- Name he uses is almost 100% guaranteed false. -- He asks for donations but refuses to disclose where *any* of the money goes. Also likes to use "blind & wheelchair bound" claim to gain sympathy. -- Majority of info that he spreads is regime propaganda, even frequently linking directly to Iranian state-controlled media sites. Other info is most frequently aimed at undermining movement through fearmongering, highly unconfirmed & false info. -- Prays upon those who are new to the discussion, most often apparently by following them seeking reciprocal followers & asking all to RT. -- Has been banned from Twitter several other times under other user names. Even at one time using @greenbrief to confuse & undermine Niteowl's work. -- Has accused several others of being foreign agents or simply "being Austin Heap" (which conjurs some pretty entertaining Being John Malkovich imagery in my head...) -- Follows some standard spammer behaviour such as tweeting large numbers of quotations to up tweet & keyword counts. Immediately blocks those who disagree with him so as avoid being added to lists. More info forthcoming. For anyone reading this who still doubts what they are reading here, I would urge you to do a mention search for Iran115 on Twitter or simply type it into Google. There'll be plenty there, often from his own mouth, to confirm. For those who say that it is a waste of time to fight him & those like him, please realize that CNN just reported the top trending tweets and nearly all were regime disinfo. Though he is easily seen for what he is if someone has any reason to doubt (or a bit more common sense) he & others like him have been effective. Iran115's day is coming... Continue support the movement by both spreading credible info & getting the word out about those who seek to undermine it. ~k *Will be crossposting to original thread & here for ease of general use. Hope Mods don't mind... |
