This is a solidarity protest *for* the people of Iran, NOT a protest *against* the Iranian government.
That's how it was explained to me, why we don't want to have "Free Iran" signs, or other Iranian government/political group signs. I think this is a protest for the people of Iran, and we have Iranians telling/asking us how best to show our solidarity (the no flags/free iran signs), and that complying is NOT HARD to do, and not complying detracts from our solidarity message. So please, please, PLEASE comply with these simple requests for the solidarity protest. -Hannah |

The organization of the Twin Cities demonstrations is horribly lacking in experience and coordination. This is an area full of vibrant activist organizations and highly-skilled facilitators. The poor turn out at the demonstrations thus far is evidence of unskilled persons at the top. Please, whoever is organizing these gatherings, reach out to others in the community are are better skilled at coordinating mass demonstrations.
The choice of locales for tomorrow's event, in downtown, makes no sense to me. It may be on the light rail, but other than that - it is a poor choice. There is symbolism in placing it near the Gov't center, but this is forced - the true symbolism of the gathering needs to be in the amount of people who turn out...the larger the crowd, the louder the message. |

Is anyone in contact with the colleges? I know they're not necessarily in session right now, but students should still be around.
I'm not in the Cities now, but I went to Macalester and remember seeing pro-Palestine/anti-war protesters on Snelling and Summit every weekend (usually Sunday mornings). I have no idea who organized that, but they seemed to have a pretty consisted group of people turn out. Might be worth stopping by and networking. |
