Default Twin Cities

Hey y'all, I'm trying to see if there's something larger happening in the Twin Cities (Mpls/St. Paul) area. If anyone knows of anything, can they pass the information along? I'd totally be willing to help organise something!

Thanks, Hannah Heidt

the website for the local anon cell is http://www.mnraid.org - unfortunately, a lot of them are going camping this weekend. i'll start a thread there that links back here.

as for the actual raid, i recommend the u of mn campus to make rallying bored college students easier. pick a date and location (northrop mall?), find some peeps, flier the hell out of the washington avenue bridge and see what happens.

postscript: rememebered the U's in summer session. state capitol rally instead?

I live in TC. We have had one protest so far, but there will probably be another protest possibly this sunday at the state capital. It is not set or agreed on yet but we are working on it.

also, sunday is father's day which would discourage attendance. saturday is superior. i'm waiting to hear back from the SPPD on coordinating schedules.

good point, I will mention that. Saturday is all booked, state capital is the selected place.

This was the first protest, unfortunately it was set up the day before so turn out was small, but we got the media attention nonetheless, it was announced and then covered on all local news channels. You should come up with some english slogans to say, because this time it is aimed at both Iranians and non-iranians.

I recommend picking one of the parks- especially on Saturday. No need for a permit (I don't think), and we can rally for signatures for state representatives in Congress and Obama not to recognise the legitimacy of the election. Also, Saturday before Father's Day probably guarantees a lot of people will be in the park to at least hear the message and possibly join.

Lake Harriet has the bandshell, we could meet there- twitter and fb the hell out of it and have it be a completely viral protest/rally. All we need are a few volunteers to bring forms- I mean, I figure once you get the people all in one place, all with the same message, the rest will take care of itself, right?

I'm not able to make a phone call right now, but the parks number is 612-230-6400, if someone wants to call and verify that we don't need a permit to be in the park passing out fliers and collecting signatures.

If anything, it can be a 'flash' protest, where we show up, say our bit, and leave quickly- though I'm pretty confident that wouldn't be an issue. I know a lot of people don't want the police involved, but checking with parks police to be sure we can do a peaceful demonstration can't hurt. The last thing we want is our message of solidarity to be overridden with anger from the Parks board.

Plus, if we have it in the park, there's a decent shot we can get at least some local politicians out to support us.

I don't have to go camping this weekend. I would rather raid.

bandshell costs $800 to rent for a three hour block. if you want to go the lakes route, i'd recommend calhoun at the corner of lake and e calhoun pkwy so we can get the traffic on lake st as well.

and yes we should keep police informed. mnraid has a good relationship with minneapolis PD so i wouldn't worry about them freaking out over a rally. that and they're more likely to freak out if they aren't kept in the loop.

I see good ideas here, and I would like to get your ideas in our conversation as non-Iranians. Let me know if you have facebook or summarize what was just said in here a bit better in terms of what our options are and what you think is the best thing to do and I will forward that to others.
