They should pull out all these policies that have to do with staff employment to prove that these are not "volunteers", if they haven't already.

In the United States there are three factors taken into account to determine if someone is an employee or not
from Independent Contractor (Self-Employed) or Employee?

How does australia determine if someone is an employee or a volunteer?

So,
when are they going to investigate Pharma for underpaying their paid staff of Scientology protesters? Some of us have been waiting months for a paycheck.

I hear some people still haven't received their drugs allotment for 2010 yet.

WTF is the deal here
And why won't they investigate?

AFAIK the law on volunteers varies from state to state (based from a quick austlii search) as of yet I can't quite find anything related to volunteers except ones to do with the emergency services.

Incidentally, I stumbled upon an old piece of news last May 31st, quoting a policy by Hubbard to take advantage of Government welfare by staff members:

Remember, as per Church of Scientology, Hubbard's policy letters are "Scriptures."

If "financial motivation" is not at play here, why are staff members paid commissions by the Church of Scientology on whatever they sell?

Re: ABC's Lateline - Fair Work Ombudsman inquiry

Sure they may have signed a document saying they were volunteers but the obvious question the ombudsman must be asking is were they treated like volunteers or more like employees?

Volunteers cannot be required to keep a work schedule, 9 - 5 for instance, they can come and go as they please.

Volunteers do not need permission to take vacations.

Volunteers do not have to adhere to extraneous codes of conduct such as required staff reading, saluting etc.

Volunteers are only compensated for their out of pocket expenses.

Volunteers are never referred to as employees.

Any evidence contrary to the above should be enough to class them as employees from a practical point of view regardless of the mumbo jumbo they might have signed in their misguided youth because you cannot volunteer for an agency that is employing you no matter how the contract is worded.

The ombudsman needs to be pretty shrewd though not to get confused by the legal smoke screen the scilons will fire at him though.

Re: ABC's Lateline - Fair Work Ombudsman inquiry

Hentlemen,

As we know, the Scientologists are (gasp) lying their siphons off about staff work being "volunteer work." As we also know, the help wanted scam is global. It might be useful to have a bunch of pix from all over the world showing their "help wanted" signs that appear to offer EMPLOYMENT, not volunteer positions. Perhaps Latenight could use them in a followup programme to demonstrate how the cult misleads passersby into applying for "jobs" that don't exist.

Re: ABC's Lateline - Fair Work Ombudsman inquiry

They just deny that it was "widespread". Though they should explain then imho how it comes that some staff members weren't paid a living wage, while all others according to them were.

Re: ABC's Lateline - Fair Work Ombudsman inquiry

great report.
I would be interested to know how many "volunteers" in the US ended up on government assistance of some sort. Wether it be Food Stamps in the past, welfare, ect....

here is a quote from a forum talking about Food Stamps:

"We were riding in a car one fine spring day, probably going to sign up for food stamps, with Sheryl Lowe (later Sheryl Licciardi) and her son Bobby in the front seat and Jeff, Gyme De Angelo, my brother and I in the back seat, I forget who was driving."
FCDC circa 1970 [Archive] - Page 2 - Ex Scientologist Message Board

It should be exposed on how much COS's members were on some sort of government assistance and how much COS has cost tax payers in the over the years, and presently.
Not to mention health care.

Between tax exemption, food stamps in the past, and welfare, it must add up to a whole butt load.
Time to let everyone know and piss the US tax payers off!

Problem is proving how many COS staff were on assistance.

Undercover at the Church of Scientology

"The COS in Lakeview is on Lincoln near Wellington and Southport. It has the customary blue Scientology awning, but also has a window display facing the street that features pumpkins, Thanksgiving decorations and other 'normal' stuff. A sign near the entrance says "Help Wanted; Now Hiring."
