You're a twit, or scilon, or both.

    Just sayin'.

Since the enquiry is not into citizens, but a private corporation trading as a religious entity, the questionable actions of which stand to have a direct affect on the wider community. Actions of a company =/= actions of a private citizen.

Edit: Also, 5 page derail? Successful troll was successful.

    0/10

All of our communication takes place on-line where anyone with free open internet access can see it. I'd like Scientology to do the same.

But we aren't hiding from the authorities. Just the CoS. Thats the difference. If a cop wants to talk to me during a protest, he can do so. I can tell him my name and show him my ID if he keeps the CoS away while we do it. Yet if a court wants to talk to Miscavige or even another scilon in trouble, the cult throws up every stone wall they can.

Stop living in a world that is only black or white. There are nuances to everything.

Re: Anon hypocrits to support Sen Xen's call for CoS to agree to inquiry

    tl;dr

    CoS vs Anonymous asymmetries:
    1. Fair game
    2. Probable cause
    3. Open communication
  14. Re: Xenophon challenges CoS to agree to senate inquiry

And when Scientology PI's get pictures of you at a local park where children just happen to be in the background. Then they follow you around the city and anytime you accidently pause infront of a place where children frequent, more pictures a re taken. Then its off to your employer where they make the case that you have been stalking their children and they have pictures to prove it. Then your boss puts a hold on any new projects coming your way, and that glowing performance review that was supposed to get you a raise, well the raise is on hold until the boss figures out if these child stalker allegations are true.

Do you really want Scientology too be planting lies in at your place of work?

Does it happen to everyone? No, but it happened at least once last month.

He didn't just ask. He tried to frame this in a manner such that if the CoS refuses to comply, it's not because they enjoy their civil liberties, it's because they're guilty. That's bullshit. It's especially bullshit when a senator calls someone out like that.
  16. Re: Xenophon challenges CoS to agree to senate inquiry

    I think it's briljant.

I don't think so, Herro. I think he phrased it like that because of the way the cult overreacted to him proposing an inquiry in the first place. Scientology did everything they always do when someone raises an eyebrow: Throw a tantrum, do everything possible to discredit the whistle-blower, and attack everyone involved.

What they didn't realize was that blowing it out of proportion like that looks incriminating. It was the same exact way they handled the Lisa McPherson case, Paulette Cooper, and the SP Times, which, lo and behold, only got people more interested.

So should we let the government monitor what we do online? I mean, if we're not doing anything wrong we should welcome letting the government monitor what we're doing, right?

Re: Xenophon challenges CoS to agree to senate inquiry

That's a straw man. Nobody has said that, and it's not the same principle.

Xenophon has said flat out that Co$ *IS* doing things that are wrong. He hasn't backed down on plans to force an investigation that I know of. What he's doing is asking Co$ if they want to comply with it voluntarily. This is a prudent step. It's not OMG POLICE STATE to ask someone if you can search their home before you go get a warrant.

Co$, of course, has every right to decline. But if they do decline, they cannot say they were denied a chance for open dialogue and airing out the place before it was forced upon them.

Re: Xenophon challenges CoS to agree to senate inquiry

Government monitoring is designed and operated by only the most brilliant, admirable people on earth and is there purely for our own welfare.

    Isn't that right.

Re: Xenophon challenges CoS to agree to senate inquiry

A straw man argument? Really, Herro? I thought you had ditched the logical fallacies weeks ago and gotten back to your old self. :(

Anyway, I do see what you point you're trying to make, but those are two completely unrelated topics. Monitoring what people do on the internet isn't even remotely comparable to looking into Scientology's dirty little secrets, like murder, physical and emotional abuse, child labor, keeping people against their will in private workcamps under the pretense of religious work, and extortion.

What they're doing is asking if Scientology is okay with it, not trying to be Big Brother. It's actually standard procedure with law enforcement, to ask to look around. What should be interesting, however, is Scientology's response. While they have every right to say no, they had better choose their words very, very carefully.

Ah, but a charitable organization has certain obligations to the public good not shared by a private citizen or a for-profit corporation.

Re: Xenophon challenges CoS to agree to senate inquiry

You both need to read what Xenophon was quoted as saying:

It is the same thing. He's saying "if you've got nothing to hide you obviously would be willing to let us investigate you." I'm sorry, but that's absolute bullshit.

Agreed, but that's not what xenophon said.

Look, it's not the idea of investigating scientology to which I object- it's this bullshit argument that only guilty people don't want the government investigating them to which I object.

Re: Anon hypocrites to support Sen Xen's call for CoS to agree to inquiry

i thought the whole idea of being anonymous... is that we are all equal... and no one is above the other. sure... we being anonymous doesn't cancel out the fact that we're humans and sometimes get puff up with pride and self-righteousness, but that doesn't mean you have to be an extreme hypocrite. Sure there are times when you unknowingly or unconsciously do shit you don't want other peeps doing... but then again, because we're anonymous, we choose to do what we like. So i guess you can continue to do what you're doing.
BUT what does a fair fight have to do with being hypocrite or not. You don't have to be a hypocrite to have a fair fight. I thought that all we needed was the truth about $ci and disseminate it among the public so they could make up their own mind. But i guess i was wrong. :D
YOur logic that we need to be hypocrites to have a fair fight is too out there.
