    Yeah I know!

And also, this isn't some huge conspiracy guys. This is because Labor wants to get the legislation through before the Copenhagen meeting. You know, being able to say "hey guys, we have a framework for dealing with climate change - you guys can do it too". World-wide leaderfagging and all that... ;)

They can also use the threat of a double dissolution election as leverage against the Coalition, who'd probably get obliterated (i.e. lose even more seats) if an election was called over this.

I'm getting muscle spasm's from all this bracing for epic. This is like the end of a movie, where they string you along and along, only to see the bad guy finally defeated....or the middle where there's a sudden plot twist....or the end with a sudden plot twist in order to set up for a sequel...

then again, it's kind of like one of those dragon ball z episodes, where like 20 minutes of the show is like review and build up, you see a bit of a fight and then the anouncer chimes in and says something like

OH NO! WILL LORD XENOPHON FINALLY GET TO MAKE HIS CASE IN THE SENATE? WILL THE EVIL DWARF DAVID MISCAVIGE GET AWAY WITH ANOTHER CRIME?? AND WILL GOKU BECOME A SUPER SAYAN IN TIME TO SAVE THE WORLD FROM FRIZA??!!
TUNE IN NEXT WEEK AND FIND OUT, ON DRAGONBALL Z!

Miscabbage: Vegeta, what does the scouter say about Xenophon's power levels?

Tommy Davis: It's over 9000! (crushes scouter)

    Miscarriage: What, 9000?

Oprah: It's over 9000 penises and they are all raeping Scientology.

Yup, and them without a place in the scilon world *hint*

Now deplorable conditions in some of the outback communities, beneath scilon concerns since you can't pillage aborigionals with their own ancient beliefs and no money, not worthy of Co$.

As for the wait, I think it does work in our favour, more time for offering support and maybe swaying some of the conservative ostriches, and more importantly, more time for scilon foot-bullet fuckery to come to light, including their blatant spam attempts.

Now moved on to lack of support of same sex couples, scilons will be behind this one given their tolerance of all things non-Hubbard >sarcasm<

    Patience.

Lady senator speaking is awesome speaker and many good points, worth the off-topic listen.

Re: Australian Senate Stream - Postponed to 26th Nov

^ Do you mean Sarah Hanson-Young (Greens) speaking on same-sex marriage/civil partnerships?

'cause if so, yes she's awesome - I was listening to the senate committee on this earlier this year/last year (forgotten exactly when) and she was fantastic in them.

Edit: Oh looked on the Senate Dynamic Red - Postponed again. :(

  11. Re: Australian Senate Stream - Postponed to 26th Nov

Just spoke to one of the senator's offices. They were not interested in looking at the Scientology thing at this stage and did not have a position. They advised that it is not likely to be voted on for some time. They advised to contact Xenophon's office in the new year :( That's not to say they know what they are talking about.

Xenuphon's office confirms that it will be delayed, but won't say for how long.

Maybe it's just bad timing but Xenuphon holds the balance of power so he can push pretty hard. Also, it gives us the opportunity of preparing written stuff to poon with, which is taken much more seriously than email.

maybe I'm right to be skeptical about this whole thing. nothing makes wishy washy politicians squirm more than a hot issue that will get them accused of being biggots. they'll dodge, duck, dive and dodge as much as they can.

I can see how some of em might see this as a lose-lose. vote for an ivestigation, and "oh noooes they'll say I'm anti religion!", vote against and it's "oh nooooes, they'll say I'm the puppet of a cult!". I got a feeling they're just trying to buy themselves some time, to see if all this just goes away.

Yes, thats what I was listening to, I likes her style! Moar balls than half the men there lol! Or most politicians I've listened to lately, especially the ass-kissers we have here lining the pockets of the corporations and their buddies shamelessly.

    Good on her!

i think atm most senators are working on this climate change stuff, this issue with scientology could possibly be delayed till like, after copenhagen

Re: Australian Senate Stream - Postponed to 26th Nov

FFS it's not like they're voting on banning Scientology an executing all the members. It's just going to be "do we refer this to the standing committee?" It's the committee who is going to be investigating and making a recommendation. Really this sort of thing should have been sent into committee with unanimous consent. What are those who are against the investigation afraid of?

Re: Australian Senate Stream - Postponed to 26th Nov

I'd say it's a time issue. And Xenophon knows that he'll need to convince other senators that it's important enough to devote the parliament's time (and by extension, the tax-payer's money) to an inquiry.

They're a tad preoccupied at the moment, as you've probably noticed.

Maybe this is old news - haven't read this whole thread.

Just spoke to the senate office; was told the vote for investigation into scientology is now very likely to take place in the new year.

So over a month to lobby all members of the Australian senate

    Liberal
    Labour
    Families First

We need to push each individual senator and ask exactly where they stand on this issue.

We need anons who follow political issues in Australia to give us information. We need to know where each senator is on this issue and why.

Re: Australian Senate Stream - Postponed to 26th Nov

Well I don't know what specific info I can provide - but I'm a parliament junkie and have been trying to/will continue to post anything relevant as I come across it.

I guess if there's any kind of background, policy position types things you want, or opinion on persuasive strategies of a certain senator I can do my best. I did post something in another thread about senator Polley's (Labor) speech on elder abuse, given last week...specifically financial exploitation of the elderly by those in positions of power or trust - which I think could be related back to the issue of the CoS's conduct in Australia.

Sorry if this isn't helpful, but I have parliament on pretty much constantly when it's in session, so if/when I hear anything interesting I'll link you guys up. If there's something or someone in particular you want info on, lemmie know and I'll do what I can.

To be completely fair, carbon emissions is a really huge issue and the world leaders have to come up with very complex reasons as to why they're not obligated to deal with it.

    21 Jun 2001

    Dear Son

As I check the calendar I see the date of June 20 registered there. This is a date with many memories--this the fortieth anniversary of your fathers death and the twenty fourth anniversary of your signing of the "disconnect" letter. In that you saw fit to publish your last letter to me (or about me) for the world to see, I felt this one should meet the same fate--thus I make it public.

This is a difficult letter to write as I realize we no longer "know' each other. I saw you for a moment about fifteen years ago, however only a hello and you were gone. I asked to come see you when you were so very ill a few years ago, however I was told that you did not care to see me. I waited in terror until I knew you were going to survive.

I have never been one to sit around letting life just pass me by. When you decided to check me out of your life via the disconnect, I realized that the relationshiop we had in the past was over. This did not stop me from loving you and thinking of you each moment that has passed. I fill my mind with remembering the good times while constatnly learning about the present times.

My head is filled with memories of your growing to be a man, coming home with great report cards, you reading into the wee hours, holidays with all of us together, the phone calls, your love of Edison and your laugh when I called to remind you of his birthday , your trying to teach me to put "english" on my pool shot, making the birthday cakes , your pride in starting your first business, there are so many memories but then my hope is that you are able to remember them too.

What "could" have been is over and now in these last years of my life I keep as active as possible and I know in my heart that these past events have occurred for a reason. Could it be because I would not let my pride stand in the way of exposing this pain to the public? Could it be because my father taught me "when you know in your heart that something is dead wrong and you do not make any effort to make it right --that is sin.".His words echo in my head each time I am so weary when I get a call for help that I think how easy it would be to just pass the problem on and I am ashamed to think I would not be there for whoever needed a lift and a kind word. So please son, do not think a nasty letter with less than the truth published, is going to make me cringe from the "fair game" or will the strange phone calls frighten me. My home and heart will be a haven for anyone who has felt the sting and infringment of a destructive cult resulting in the loss of a loved one or denying one a right to free speech.

The effort to discredit me with the people in this community has failed.

Perhaps I should be thankful as it proved again how far the organization that you have devoted over twenty five years of your life would go to silence just one person. I had a wonderful civics teacher in the eighth grade son, she was a great believer in the exercise of free speech. I remember every word she taught us. It is a pleasure to associate my life with those that believe that free speech is meant for everyone--not just those with what may be temporary and supposed power!

    Sincerely,
    Mother

They majority of senators do not give their opinions to journalists or the public, especially on an issue like this which they would definitely not see as particularly pressing or important.

    Today:
No. 1 – Senator Xenophon – Reference to the Community Affairs References Committee (application of certain Commonwealth laws to the Church of Scientology)

Re: Australian Senate Stream - Postponed to 26th Nov

So my understanding of it based on what the other Senator said was that the reason for it being postponed is that they want the SEVERAL federal investigations already going on against Scientology to be concluded before they form the committee so the committee already has its evidence on the table. This means it's a win because:

    (1) The feds are seriously investigating Scientology on several different fronts in Australia.
    (2) Parliament is aware of this and in contact with the feds concerning those investigations
    (3) Parliament believes that the investigations will have concluded to some extent by February.
