    Harry Reid trolls deep, son!
  2. Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

The overall theme of the ad is "Sharron Angle is a loony" and trying to associate her with loony positions and loony people is the goal.

It is certainly remarkable that, as you're saying, it has become politically convenient to rag on Scientology, and I don't mean to detract from that fact in the least. It is very unusual to see an American politician say something bad about any religion.

I'm just trying to cool the rhetoric in this thread a bit. Being connected to Scientology is not "political poison," and does not by itself classify a candidate as a "nutjob." If that were the case, Reid would be hitting on her many other ties to Scientology as well as the narconon issue.

I am rather surprised at how the media has portrayed the ad though. I didn't expect as many headlines about Scientology and they are quite welcome.

You don't suppose David Miscavige would be stupid enough to publically slam Harry Reid for this, do you?

Then again, he does seem to be addicted to Footbullets...

Gosh, who would expect that on a Scientology themed forum? Considering Scientology actually has something to do with Second Chance and all...

Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

If Scientology is not yet "political poison," it will be. Like the American Nazi Party or people connected to the KKK, the word 'Scientology' should send politicians scampering for the scuppers.

As far as 'nutjob' goes, any politician who supports or promotes Scientology's proven fraudulent programs; they're either nutjobs, or corrupt, or uninformed. Those who accept the w00 w00 theories behind Scientology's programs without researching them must fall into the nutjob category, because only a nutjob would take medical advice from a hack pulp fiction writer.
  7. Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

I'm not necessarily saying they aren't nutjobs, I'm saying that having ties to Scientology would not by itself make a candidate a nutjob in the perception of the electorate at large.

I disagree. Maybe we could sponsor a poll or something?...

Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

    I agree with your disagreement.
There won't be any candidates at this level who will succeed if they are associated with this cult.

Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

I think we got mixed up on a double-negative. I was wondering if a poll that asks if connections to Scientology are the Kiss of Death for Politicians would wake up a few more of them. And, yes, I'm betting that the numbers from such a poll would go that way.

i think she's referring to the fact that angle wanted to give criminals massages in prison with taxpayers' money

    Scientology is a cult

Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

ARE YOU FUCKING TRYING TO KID US? Of course, having ties to Scientology does, by itself, label a candidate as a NUT JOB!

Holy freeking jebuZ! What the hell are YOU smoking? The connection between Scientology and "crazy fucking wacko nut-job" has been obvious in the US since at least the Readers Digest article about Scientologist nutjobs in the early 1980s.

You must be a Scientology apologist, if not a card-carrying IAS Scientologist.

Mulls to self, "Rufus is just another card-carrying IAS Scientologist attempting to put positive spin on an association with Scientology for which no positive spin is possible".

If that were the case, there are a number of sleazeball politicos who wouldn't have lasted so long before their non-Scientology-related flaws brought them down.

Do you really think that most people are going to be thinking about Angle's Scientology connection compared to her views on Social Security? (I don't completely disagree with her on that one. She just can't explain worth beans.)

Protip: He lives in NEVADA.. He isn't worried about scilon backlash and being labeled a bigot will hurt his chances. Also he never said anything bigoted about Scienotology, just that this lady approved budget money to pay scientologists to go into prisons and touch / massage prisoners.

    It is all true.

  17. Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

He may live in Nevada but he is the national leader of senate democrats, so national opinion of him has a slightly larger political impact.

I don't think anybody has claimed that he said anything bigoted or that his claims are untrue
  18. Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

That's true. I guarantee you there would be alot of people voting for Angle if Tom Cruise and/or John Travolta campaigned for her... there's voting power in celebrity.

Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

Here's something I don't understand. Why do some people here seem to think that Scientology being political poison is a recent development? I mean, people have been calling Scientology a silly cult for quite some time now and long before Chanology came on the scene.

Have you ever seen it mentioned in a campaign ad before those against Angle?

Letters: Sharron Angle hides from reporters, defends Scientology to conservative press - Salon
She also defends her advocacy for a Church of Scientology-developed quack drug therapy program by claiming Scientologists are the victims of religious persecution.

Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

Keep this in mind. We, here, are all abuzz about the Scn "angle" of this race, but beyond this site, most Nevadans will presumably be less focused on that one issue. Broadly speaking, the above quote sums it up well IMO.

Chanology's task in this race (as I've noted before) is simply to keep the focus on the cult element as much as we can. Reid's campaign will focus on whatever they see as the most likely to be politically effective, be that Scn or anything else (or a "basket" of multiple elements), and the election results will measure their success/fail. Chanology's yardstick, OTOH, is the amount of public awareness about Scientology which comes from this race. The election results will be only one factor in that measurement, and how much of a factor will depend on how much the cult plays into the campaign dynamics. That's where our efforts come in....

I think it's interesting how she not only defends all things Scientology, but she has a lot of information about her own personal history she seems to hide, such as her own maiden name and her family. Why do you think that is?

Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

at one point in the primary Sue Lowden, was formerly the clear front-runner,

Sue Lowden pointed out that Angles connection to Kelly Preston and Jenna Elfman
    on Angles web page..

Angle removed the claim that she, along with actresses Kelly Preston and Jenna Elfman, approached Sen. John Ensign to sponsor legislation prohibiting school employees from requiring students to take psychotropic drugs, such as anti-depressants.

Instead, Angle’s website, says only that Ensign sponsored a bill “at Angle’s request.”

theres a whole host of Non-Scientology Issues Harry Reid can go after.
I doubt he will spend much time on the Scientology angle..

    Narconon = Scientology con
NarcAnon = Narcotics Anonymous (it's not a formal nickname but a lot of people use it)

NarcAnon has nothing to do with Scientology.

Hence why I keep saying that it's our job to push that angle.

Re: MSNBC: Harry Reid slams Sharron Angle on Scientology in prisons

The National Foundation for Women Legislators has thousands of members from all walks of life...and women and men from both political parties..its a diverse group.

there are a few key Scientology Members Involved with the National Foundation for Women Legislators
Bruce Wiseman is the treasurer of National Foundation for Women Legislators
Wiseman was also the President of the Scientology anti-psychiatry group, the Citizen's Commission on Human Rights.

Joy Westrum is the NFWL Private Sector Chair of the Crime, Justice, Terrorism & Substance Abuse Policy Committee .
she is the President of the Scientology Second Chance Prison Program

Rick Pendrey is also on the NFWL Private Sector Chair of the Crime, Justice, Terrorism & Substance Abuse Policy Committee
also involved in the Second Chance Prison Program and involved with Narconon at one point.

Angle bought into that program because of Westrum and Pendrey

    Don Pearson has"given lectures,to the"NFWL
is also connected to Scientology's Political Action Committee, Citizens for Social Reform,

there is no doubt the 4 above have used their connection in the NFWL to promote the Scientology Agenda ...(they almost always cover up the fact that its for Scientology)

I am sure they send out a barrage of culty press propaganda, dvds, press packages..anything to push their agenda.. to all the members of the NFWL.they provide Scientology Celebs to press the agenda..etc.;;;which would be enticing if your star struck......most of it probably ends up in the "circular file cabinet"where it belongs...

every once an awhile they find a Politician Like Sharon Angle that falls for it hook line and sinker..

Sharron Angle seems to have bought into some of it..Second Chance..psychotropic drugs, and anti-depressants...and maybe a few other issues..

the rub is ...Scientologist here aren't exactly honest about the success of the programs..

and they are ultimately pushing it because it brings money into Scientology.

Sharron Angle is not the only one who has been influenced by Scientology NFWL members.
