This cult lady is awesome- everything she is saying applies to the Scilons- psychological damage to members, ex's and families.

More like they have to table evidence which states that people can believe in any religion even if its a con. They don't want their own people seeing them publicly admitting this.

Cult Information and Family Support (submission 14)
    Ms Ros Hodgkins, President

"Where the Rubber Meets the Road"

She talks about the common sense presentation of much more harm than good.
Something all can understand. Now talking about indoctrination/manipulation and basically, brainwashing in cults.

No one joins a cult. They join a group that claims bettering society in some way. And enjoys tax exemptions.

"The abuses of scien-- oops, of some groups discussed here today..."

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

eah- but it all applies to the Scilons- everthing from not going to the police for crimes to abuses of taxation system. If it were to be considered as part of a "test" in looking at harm vs. public benifit. The Scilons would fail:)
    Imho.
This blah, blah, blah is relevant and very good for the future. I thinks.

You are missing one of the speakers for CIFS (man in a grey short sleeve dress shirt) that is reading a prepared statement discussing the lack of oversight by anybody on tax exemption claims by religious organizations.

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

Maybe I missed it in the roundtable of Ex's. But Sci's submission, besides bawww about religious persecution, was totally based on front groups like Narconon, Applied Scholastics, etc, which CofS has historically denied being part of Scientology churches.

Despite the fact that the benefit claims of these front groups has been reviewed by independent groups and found to be false, this didn't seem to be brought up today.

More importantly, I didn't seem to hear that these front groups shouldn't be included in the Church of Scientology's claims for public benefit.

    wot? not sure

Thank God she's there. That other guy is way too nervous to express himself clearly. Good on Xenophon to get it back on track. Again.

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

I'm still concerned about the clarity of distinction about sci's front groups, which is their MAIN argument about public benefit test submission, and whether the ex's roundtable panel members made it clear that all these front groups clearly and legally state they are NOT church of scientology.

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

Maybe someone should bring that point up to one of Sen. Nick's staffers during the lunch break so they get it on his "Questions List" for the Cof$ when their turn comes.

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

I am worried about this too. The ex's were told that they could make "additional submissions" AFTER they testified. Maybe someone could point out that this is an area the should address.
People PAY for Narconanon...they are "not" a part of the COS, blah, blah, blah.

    Wink.

lol, just caught that too :D Considering how nervous everyone must be they are speaking quite well. Now talking about complaints policy and culpability.
    This is too awesome!

& wow again! Their testimony has just concluded, I think they all did very well and the points were well presented.
charitable Orgs rep now to speak, so much for my evening :) NZ dude speaks very well too, this is interesting and relevant, Mr Garret? This is important stuff as he is explaining how NZ deals with the issues on the table.

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

But note that recently someone reported that scientology.org now has their main front groups logos on their opening page (trying to cancel out history).

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

Noted. Rewriting history is a tale tale sign of narcissism. LRH doctrine anyone?

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

There were points brought out that "volunteer" works of sci's was done at their Own expense and often under coercsion, so that was good as it went on record.
The specific front groups, though, which CofS submitted, somehow not anyone pointed out: Not Affiliated with Scientology.

I just found it strange no one on the panel made this statement. It's a Huge footbullet by cos's submission. The panel did a great job. I'm just befuddeled why cos's major strategy, based on a falsehood, wasn't addressed with clear vigor.

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

So, now we're trying to argue that the front groups aren't part of Scn? They can't have it both ways, and neither can we.

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

Is this true for real, Sponge?! Have you checked it out?

    This would be wonderful news!!

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

Every front groups has always claimed it wasn't part of scientology from day one. If, due to Australia or anything else, Sci is now enforcing all these groups to declare they are sci, GREAT!!! Public are aware of Sci pitfalls; their front groups, not so much.

Re: Public Benefit Test - hearing schedule published

Xenophon (to director of charity commision, new zealand): if a church charged high fees in order to acheive 'enlightenment' would that be looked at as a negative with regard to public benefit?

New Zealand director of charities: Yes, as that would be exclusive of the general public's availability to access the charity

    (paraphrased)

It was much more rock solid of a final question than I was able to remember while typing it all out.
