Senator Xenophon Scientology Speech - Media Coverage Megathread

  1. Senator Xenophon Scientology Speech - Media Coverage Megathread

Just did a google news search for scientology, and the number one story was a press release from the cult trumpeting their legitimacy in Australia.

    http://www.pr-inside.com/scientology-overcomes-criminal-government-abuse-r1588480.htm
Scientology overcomes criminal government abuse and gains religious recognition

I don't know how you guise fix this, but please bump Senator Xenophon's epic, history- making speech to the Australian parliament number one.

    Thanks!

The Press info is the Scientology Parishioners League?
Is this a new front group or old?
  3. re: Senator Xenophon Scientology Speech - Media Coverage Megathread

I did a google news search and came up with everything but that puff press release

    scientology - Google News

And in fact the first item that comes up is:

Old. So old that their parishoners.org website registration has lapsed.

They use the same "NO U" argument every single time. They need to learn that the "always attack, never defend" tactic not only doesn't work, but makes matters worse.

Really. It didn't work the last hundred times they were criticized, why in the hell would it work this time? Or the next time? Or the time after that? A telling sign of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result every time.

The cult fucking fails. Their PR fails, their releases fail, and their damage control fails. They practically recycle the same NO U press release with a few edits for names and dates, and then wonder why nobody sympathizes with them.

The tech doesn't work, fucktards. Lrn2/public relations.

    Scientology accused of cover ups

Radio show with Cyrus Brooks (Aus. head of Sci PR etc.) failing miserably at rebuttal of claims. Comments are open.

If you mean politicians that aren't afraid to do what they think is right, I agree. Although I would argue that being willing to go after Scientology isn't really a good measure of the kind of person America needs. AO, Magoo, AGP- all highly motivated to go after the CoS. But do you want them in charge?
  14. re: Senator Xenophon Scientology Speech - Media Coverage Megathread

What kind of retarded logic is this?

re: Senator Xenophon Scientology Speech - Media Coverage Megathread

Seems pretty straightforward to me- being willing to go after scientology is a poor measure of the type of person that would make a good elected official.

I don't think it's specifically that they want to go after Scientology. I think the Anon was saying that they would want someone who isn't a complete and total pussy to be in charge, or someone who would kow-tow to special interests, like Jeff Stone.
  18. re: Senator Xenophon Scientology Speech - Media Coverage Megathread

I love how you automatically assume that the going after Scientology thing was the reason we need more politicians like this in the US. It's so very... you.

    Oh that was PRICELESS.;)

I loved how he kept dodging the questions about if he welcomed a police investigation.

"we will fully cooperate with authorities..."
"but would you welcome a police investigation?"
"we will fully cooperate with authorities..."
"wouldn't it be best to have an external enquiry from the police?"
"we will fully cooperate with authorities..."
"so you would encourage an external police investigation into these serious matters?
"we will fully cooperate with authorities..."

And then when the interviewer asked if he could come down to AOSH ANZO and have a poke around and Cyrus is like "oh sure, no problem, anyone can come in for a tour!".
Oh boy I bet hes regretting that one! The whole place will have to go into controlled lockdown now, like hell a reporter is gonna get a real personal tour of anzo's advanced org!

I'm very glad Xenophon has done this; but as I've emphasized many times before, you'll never go broke betting on people acting out of self-interest. Yes, having heard the many accounts Xenophon has, it would be (nearly) impossible for him to ignore the issue. But it's easy for a PM (or senator or congressman) to ensure they never see these accounts. There are 'gatekeepers' for people in power - there's a reason you can't call a phone number and have a senator pick up.

Why haven't any politicians gone after scifaggotry before? Because it has never before been in the best interest of any given politician to do so. The fact is, it is now in some politicians' best interests to do so - so we're seeing it happen. And going after scientology gives no information re: the ability of the legislator to pass just laws or uphold a constitution. I'm all for taking out scientology, and I'm all for having sound leadership. They are not inherently tied; and I can imagine a number of proposed legislations that would destroy scientology that I would strongly oppose - for example, a state mandated religion (with the abolition of all other religions).

Cyrus is going to be pretty busy over the next few days.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    (repeat post)
I woke up and 6PR Perth Simon Beaumont show has just asked for scientologists to phone in to discuss the allegations in Oz.
Simon says, "Are you criminals? are you tax-evasers?"

His show goes for 3 hours, so I suppose he will cover the subject in further detail some time and receive a few calls.

    phone (08) 92211882

    email: Simon@6pr.com.au

and the ball keeps rollin' :)

Simon just gave another call out to scientologists @9:15am

Here's another gem from that article.

PRIME MINISTER RUDD SAYS: "Many people in Australia have real concerns about Scientology," Mr Rudd said.

If only we could get the same from Obama!

The freaking PRIME MINISTER. WIN. WIN. WIN.

(NOTE: Rudd has spoken, seem to be on the "right" side of things, but cautions they must move forward carefully on the investigation side).
