Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

So, I was listening to the national press club address on ABCnews radio, and once it ended they ran a snippet saying that Xenophon is now pushing for a Judicial inquiry into Scientology...

Unlike a senate inquiry this would be presided over by a judge and have the power to subpoena people. Much stronger.

Haven't been able to locate any linkage as yet...but yep, that's what I heard!

    Edit - Media linkage!

There is now unquestionable conformation (impeccable media sauce), that Lord Xenuphon is calling for a Judicial Inquiry.

Xenophon won't be satisfied until Scientology's presence in Australia is gone - I for one hope he gets a judicial inquiry.

    Judicial inquiry? Sounds good!
Though also sounds a lot harder to get then the public benefit inquiry.

A Koala is not a Bear!

    It's a marsupial!

But otherwise yep, he's persistent...something I liked in him even before the Scientology issue. He's probably part of the reason we're not more jaded by federal politics than we are. :)

Noice! Danke! Will add to the OP. :D
  9. Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

But El That is not a Koala that is a photo of a BLOODY Dropbear. You of all people should be able to reconise that. You do remember your Dropbear Reconsion Lessons at Primary School right?

    Xenophon is a lovely man.
Even if it doens't go ahead, it should generate enough black PR to louse the scilons up a bit.

When can we expect a vote/response for this inquiry?

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

I'm pretty sure it has to be initiated by federal cabinet (so no vote, per se)...the onus would instead be on Rudd and his ministers.

Someone else might know differently, but that's my understanding.

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

Hmm, so how to harpoon in support of this?

Can we get some details on this 'cabinet' Rudd has? Perhaps a key?

I for one welcome our new Vampire Teddy overlords.

Will Aussies have to go overseas to raid?
  20. Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

Wouldnt that be great "raid junkets". Maybe we can get a federal grant...

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

This could be interesting if it goes ahead. I think it would have more clarity and legal clout than a government review and would be seen as non-political. There are enough ex-members in Australia who would come forward and give evidence with the Church of Scientology being condemned through its actions and the harm inflicted on persons rather than its beliefs. Of course, the "church" would counter that with its lies but then this whole mess with TR-L might come up in front of the judge and that wouldn't do them any good. If this goes ahead then there is a real chance of them getting kicked out of Australia altogether. The first Clear Continent.

Edit: And just one small point. It is best if whoever judge they appoint has no pets. I don't think an explanation is needed.

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

I don't see a ban happening at all. People are free to believe what they want to believe. Even if a corporation is dissolved in the public interest, people will always be free to incorporate a fresh scientology "church" and operate legally. So, kicking them off the continent is not a realistic goal. Far better that they should clean up their act, IMO.

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

agreed about people believing in what they want.
But is it possible for COS to clean up their act?
To clean up their act.... they would have to more or less disband the Sea Org?
without the Sea Org, they can't survive IMO

The Sea Org is rife with abuses, poor medical care, sleep deprivation, family disconnection, coreced abortions, and labor violations. How can they clean this up?
They wont' pay them more, they won't change the rules about having kids, and family disconnection is policy....

And if they did clean up their act..... it would be too risky, as they would not have enough control over the Sea Orgers.
To clean up their act, wouldn't they have to go against Hubbard's policies?

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

It would indeed, which mean they would keep up a costly fight until the Australian branch was broke. As long as it is all about the money, that would sink CoS Australia much more effectively than any outright ban.

As Hubbard might say the point of a Judicial Enquiry is not to win but to harass...

That said there are damn good grounds for a judicial enquiry and one should be had for very real reasons. It is however a win even if it doesn't win.

Pick out the bad parts? imo, in practical terms, not possible, especially now.

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

You are right. It is not possible for them to clean up their act and still follow Policy. It is their ACTIONS they need to be condemned for and not their beliefs. If someone is getting together evidence for a judicial inquiry then they should be looking for examples of where people have been harmed as a direct consequence of the application of policy. The actual Policy Letter should be quoted along with the harm done. Of course there will be a few things that may not be covered by a Policy Letter such as forced abortions and then examples of this are needed plus evidence that this practise is widespread and has been going on for a number of years. Condemn them by their actions and show that these were the direct result of the application of policy, provable by the relevant Policy Letters, or a well established practise. This way a court can ban them due to the harm done through the following of their policies and refuse them in any other form in Australia so long as they have the name Scientology in their title. This can be made to work.

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

You can clean, and clean, and clean, and clean and still end up with an abusing mindfucking money-making scam. Far better they vanish off the face of the earth. And take Hubbard's nasty tech with them.

They're out of time. It will happen.

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

    That is the way Roland!

Match each incident with dox or well known practice.

Make sure it is clear and concise and contains no tinfoil or moonbattery.

Show that it is not a unique incident in 1 country or 1 "org".

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

So in that case, CoS will make a front group called "Australian Scientology Church" and claim it has nothing to do with the CoS. You heard it here first, guise.

But really, they don't have to do ban Scientology. A couple of jail sentences at the top and tax-exemption removed would be enough to kill the organisation :)

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

Absolutely. And the first thing that has to be established is that Policy runs the Church and is not there as history for Church leaders to pick and choose from. So you prove that Policy runs the Church and you prove that the Policy hurts people and then there will hopefully be no more Co$ in Australia in any official form. Maybe, in the future, you could have a REFORMED Church of Scientology but this will never emerge from the established Church.

We have to hope that this judicial inquiry comes about.

Re: Xenophon calling for a JUDICIAL inquiry

I realise that they will keep reinventing themselves until they're all in jail or they learn to change or they give up. The system has to be vigilant and catch them at it again and bring them to justice again and so on, and so on.
