I obviously can't participate but if you ozzies are planning on doing this, do it well, and by well I mean, get tons of people to gather at a date far enough that will give people time to sort things out in their own lives. And it doesn't have to be all Anonymous people. Get groups and communities that care about this issue to join you guys.

    HUUUR HUUUR

Do bad Us Canberra protesters are looking into this eh?

If we can get enough interest I will do it, but you have to have a permit and you "HAVE" to know your numbers.
There is a protest in Australia national Capital on the 27th, not on the steps on parliament, but where A LOT of Australian public servants and Parliament members go to lunch on the weekends.

Check the Raid thread for more details.

I just wish Australia wasn't so far away! (and travel was more affordable) (I am in London)

I wish I could be there. You guys talk about megaraids, this would be the ultimate fucking megaraid. If one of you wins the lottery in the next week, please buy me plane ticket. :D

Perhaps V himself should make a message.
If any of you remember in the movie "V for Vendetta" V's message to England includes the phrase "Outside the gates of parliment"
Perhaps that clip, edited and with a few things added, could be made and spread.
Also passages like "And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there?" could be subsituted to "And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this religion isn't there?"
"Men with guns" could be replaced with "Men with cameras".
When you watch the movie, or listen to his speech, the thing is eerily appropriate for the Church of Scientology.
If you look at the society they live in, it's very much as if Scientology had taken over and gotten away with its plans.

Watch it again and replace things in your mind with L.Ron Hubbard and David Miscavige and the Scientology symbol. Even the hitler-like character in this movie looks like an old version of David Miscavige.

To those people who think Xenophon is a legend...

Many Aussies would know him as an anti-gambling politician, at least prior to his recent remarkable anti-Scientology statements in the Senate.

Gambling has a special place in the Australian heart, we love to gamble, we love our poker machines, horses, lotto, you name it. We also have huge problems with problem gamblers sinking the family funds into the pokies and the like. Many hotels and clubs rely on gamblers for their survival. And the government reaps HUGE amounts in tax revenue from gambling. There are various powerful lobby groups that don't want gambling curtailed.

For a politician to take on the problems of gambling in Australia would take someone with positively platinum balls. It's not an easy thing to do. It is the right thing to do. Xenophon is an independent too, there is no large political party supporting him, he's on his own and he's making his own calls. Taking on Scientology also needs to be done, again it's a hard path and no one can question the fortitude of Senator Xenophon's balls.

Is Xenaphon a legend? Double plus FUCK YEAH!

Also, for those who don't realise, he's an independent and hence wields a diproportionate amount of power. Whether the major parties like it or not they do on occasion need the support of the independents. I figure Xenaphon votes according to his own principles, but it's easy for me to imagine a scenario where Lobor say wants Xenaphon's support on an unrelated matter, Xenaphon might have a neutral stance and hence says "I'll give you this, you give me Scientology."

Have you Australians heard of "skeptics"?

They're like, science nerds who think evolution happened and they think Scientology represents the most offensive, hard core fraud.

What about South Park fans? Do you think there are any South Park fans in Australia?

Herm. Would groups in front of Australian embassies, consulates elsewhere in the world, holding signs with stuff like:

  11. Re: XENOPHON calls for picket on Parliament

I'm a skeptic and your definition is depressingly simplistic lol.
It's more than that. It's a mindset, very much in parallel with Science and its methods, it's about intellectual honesty and critical thinking.
When I found that community it was the best thing that ever happened to me and my mind. But it isn't an organization or anything, it's just a community, very much like Anonymous. I would even say that Anonymous is an arm of a growing skeptical/rationalist wave.

    I know. I'm trolling, you silly-sausage. I am a skeptic.

For example, I listen to Rebecca Watson on SGU etc. I love James Randi & Tim Minchin. (Tim is an Aussie). (Tim so so fucking funny)

If I was a gay, I would bum Nick Xenophon.
  16. Re: XENOPHON calls for picket on Parliament

Australia has lots of new age stuff and a history of Christian dominance. Sadly, we are losing some of our skepticism.

Also although it is illegal, there are public schools which have introduced religious instruction and prayers. Orthodox religion is deliberately making inroads (I suspect in response to the increase in New Age spiritualism taking up market share).

Australia is such a wealthy country, people can afford to be ignorant without any visible consequences to their lifestyle. Many are...

South Park is popular, but many people have not seen that episode.

I like that idea, with added Co$-specific stuff.

And you know this how? It just might get media notice and could add to the volume in Australia.

Re: XENOPHON calls for picket on Parliament

The problem is how to get local media notice which can then be noticed in Australia. It's not like some stringer for the Sydney Morning Herald is going to be there in Toronto directly reporting on the three people standing across from the Australian consulate waving signs like "Xenophon and Green ham please!" "Scientology? No thanks!" "Down with this sort of thing!"

It'd have to be picked up by local media first, who'd probably never pass it past their WTF and LOLWUT filters.

Unfortunately I did not get to post this before, , but there is a full hour documentary (*edit* 44min 04 sec - close enough)which is very informative which was aired on the 7.30 report. I am Australian btw.

    I have to find it....

    *edit*
sorry its Four Corners - the program aired is on the top left, and additional information is found on this website. I reccomend you watch the 44min one first, then if you want watch the extra information.

Re: XENOPHON calls for picket on Parliament

It looks like being a meet and greet for politicians with exes. No picket as such.

Xenophon just held a press conference - all the channels present - a woman made a statement about being coerced to have two abortions. First time she has ever spoken about it. Stay tuned. I don't want to give her name before it hits the news.
