Excellent interview. Few key points: Xenophon mentions a Lot of information has now been sent to Parliament. He reiterates that if sci has done nothing wrong, then they should welcome this inquiry. He mentions all the media worldwide now coming out and the focus and spotlight, as well as other countries actions to shut them down or protect victims of sci. It's not about politics. Inquiry would take an Evidence Based Approach.

I'm wondering (ok, dreaming) that Xenophon has the ear of senator counterparts in the U.S. If not, can we clone him?

Scientology claims tax exemptions as a charitable organisation, just who are the recipients of all of this worldwide charity anyways?

The only groups they seem to raise money for are their own bogus front groups, they shun homeless people as degraded beings and offer their "help" to only those who can afford their absurd prices for promises that can't be delivered or who will work at slave wages 80 hours a week to pay.

    Some Charity!

Another point in the interview, which seems to be a repeating theme in media coverage: Why not just walk away? Xenophon explains it fairly well in a few short sentences, and concludes this is just one more reason why there should be an inquiry/investigation.

Evidence. There is no other word in the English language guaranteed to illicit a predictable response from any scino (or their lawyers).

In Uk Law 'undue Influence' is a recognised argument

Undue influence exists where a contract has been entered as a result of pressure which falls short of amounting to duress, the party subject to the pressure may have a cause of action in equity to have the contract set aside on the grounds of undue influence. Undue influence operates where there exists a relationship between the parties which has been exploited by one party to gain an unfair advantage. Undue influence is divided into actual undue influence and presumed undue influence. Where a contract is found to be entered into as a result of undue influence, this will render the contract voidable. This will enable the person influenced to have the contract set aside as against a party who subjected the other to such influence. In addition, in some instances the party influenced may be able to have a contract set aside as against a party who was not the person inflicting the influence or pressure.

Not sure why people don't cite this more in regard to the cult.

    Xenophon gave an excellent interview.

I imagine that's what a person suing to get OUT of a contract would argue in court. In this case, staff are not asking to be let out of the contract in court - so they can't present that argument. To ask the government to step in on their behalf, make that argument, and nullify the contracts is paternalistic - and conservatives are generally skeptical of government paternalism (and rightly so, in my view). Even then, if the government declared that sea org & staff contracts are null and void, few staff would even hear about that - and those that do would generally sign another contract (under varying degrees of duress).

There's 2 different courts asking the question. One is court of law, the other court of public opinion. What I'd like to see more of is short, concise common points of cult or brainwashing brought to light as an overview of the whole picture.

See Australia for Great Justice, new article from Australian Person of the Year, Pschiatrist, now urging Senate Inquiry.
I agree that those inside any cult, not objecting, should not be issue of courts of law. Not the individuals, but the organization and any crimes or tax exemption status or religious status is another matter. And those that are out and asking for help, protection or investigation should be.

This is actually a Very Good Point. If they've done nothing wrong, what are they going to do to overturn the current wave of bad PR? What would or could do that more efficiently and authoritatively than an official inquiry?
